PATRICK MORONEY 1893-1953

Patrick2 Moroney (Thomas1) was born in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare 9 July 1893.  Patrick died 19 November 1953 in Erie County, Buffalo, NY, at 60 years of age.  His body was interred circa 1953 in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna, Erie County, NY., Section AA, Lot 212, Grave 6.

He married Nora O'Dea in St. Monica's RCC, Erie County, Buffalo, NY, 23 June 1923.  Nora was born 17 January 1900.  Nora was the daughter of John O'Dea and Margaret Donahue.  Nora died 28 March 1976 in Erie County, Buffalo, NY, at 76 years of age.  Her body was interred circa 1976 in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna, Erie County, NY., Section AA, Lot 212, Grave 7.  Nora left her homestead in Ennis, county Clare at the young age of 16.  She settled in Buffalo, New York never to return.  Her children always thought it had to be so hard for her to leave her Mom, Dad, brothers, and sisters.  She met her husband, Pat Moroney at an Irish dance in Buffalo.  She worked in downtown Buffalo as a maid for the Larkin Family.  One day Nora was a little lax in her dusting and Mrs. Larkin ran her finger over the buffet and told Nora she could write her name in it, it was so dusty.  Nora replied, "Isn't education a grand thing". At the age of 21, Nora went into a coma.  She did come out of it after 3 months and the doctors at Sisters Hospital in Buffalo told her if she ever married she should never have any children, never lift an iron, never vacuum and not to do any heavy work.  Her children don't know the name of the doctor but Nora had 12 children and the day she died at 75 years old, she did her windows inside and out.  She never  stopped working Nora made the best bread and biscuits and Old Country Bread (it was dark and had raisins, caraways seeds and just the best flavor).  Growing us the kids were sick of homemade bread, they just wanted to try store bread.  Now they would give their right arm for Mom's bread. She became a widow at the young age of 52.  One of the biggest heartaches was having to bury her daughter Betty. Nora always had room for anyone that wanted to stay.  She would take the mattress off their bed and put it on the living room floor.  There was always room for one more.  Nora was a favorite Aunt to all the O'Brien, O'Neil, Donovan and Neylan children.
